The Cornflake Incident
Project Type
Short Film
Date
2025
Role
Cinematographer, Writer, Lighting
For Johnson University's 48 hour film festival, I teamed up with fellow student Zane Huss to crank out a film within 2 days. The competition begins with us all pulling a random genre out of a hat, and being given several names and props that had to be included. Zane served as the director, and I acted as director of photography, as well as much of the screenwriting. We managed to write, shoot, edit and score it all within 48 hours.
The randomness of the genre and requirements prevented us from writing anything beforehand, but we prepared as much as we could by choosing to do a film noir, and preparing costumes and props that would fit that style. We did not know whether we'd be making a roadtrip, an action film, a romance, or a comedy until the clock started ticking.
This project gave me an opportunity to use my tinkering and 3d modeling skills to create a gobo to cast the venetian blind lighting onto the actors. I dismantled a broken projector and created and 3d printed an adapter to mount it to my video lights.
